The Kay Saintsing Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 to honor the late founder of the North Carolina Association of Festival and Events (NCAF&E). Kay was a leader within the tourism community and highly admired for her commitment to public service. Annually, a $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a returning student at a North Carolina college or university. Students from all campuses (who meet the requirements) may apply.

NCAF&E wishes this award to be made to a student who has "serious academic pursuits," who "loves learning," and who is "interested in the breadth of learning in
relation to recreation and tourism." The Executive Board of the NCAF&E has established the selection criteria and process for this award by recognizing Kay Saintsings' intentions when she initiated NCAFE. The criteria are:

Minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, with no grade earned lower than a "C"
Enrolled as a full-time student at a college/university in North Carolina
Must have sophomore or junior standing (2011-2012 school year)
Must be returning to their home university the next year
Must be a Parks, Recreation or Tourism Management major
The recipient must attend the Carolina Showfest Conference

If you meet these criteria, we invite you to apply for this prestigious award. You must submit your application to the NCAF&E Office by January 13, 2012.

Please complete and attach the enclosed form to your essay. The NCAF&E Executive Board will review all essays. The recipient of the award will be announced at
the Carolina Showfest Awards Luncheon.

Please complete the form and return it along with the following:

All transcripts (unofficial or official will be accepted)
A 300 word essay about the future plans following graduation regarding parks, recreation and tourism management
Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a college advisor or professor)
Preference will be given to those who have a second recommendation from a member of NCAF&E

The South Carolina Festival and Event Association is committed to the progress and promotion of the festival and event industry in South Carolina. The Association believes that current college students enrolled in hospitality and tourism programs within the state's university and college systems are vital to the future growth and develop of the industry. In 2011, the SCFEA board approved awarding a $500 scholarship to a deserving student. The following guidelines were established:

Student must be a South Carolina resident enrolled full-time at a post secondary institution in South Carolina.
Student must be enrolled in a hospitality, tourism, parks, recreation, or event management program.
Student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
Student must submit a resume.
Student must have earned a minimum (or will have earned by the time of the conference) of 45 credit hours.
Student must complete a minimum of a 500 word essay describing his/her career goals and objectives.
Student must be a member of their school's SCFEA chapter (if applicable)
Student must attend the annual ShowFest conference. (SCFEA will cover one night of lodging expenses and registration fees).

Applications must include an unofficial transcript stating the student's intended major and grades (an official transcript may be required before the scholarship is awarded). The application, resume, essay, and unofficial transcript must be received by December 31, 2011.
